John Francis Kirk, 70, of Wakefield, died Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Select Speciality Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. John was born May 4, 1949 in Stockton, Calif., the son of James Albert and Romilda (Belli) Kirk.
John attended schools in Stockton, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967. He spent over 20 years in the U.S. Army before being Honorably Discharged in 1988 as a Master Sgt. After he was discharged from the military, he worked for a time as a auto mechanic at Dick Edwards Ford, but later worked for many years as a civilian employee on Ft. Riley.
John was raised Catholic.
John married Mary Foundation on January 9, 1971 in Reno, Nevada. Mary survives. Other survivors include: 2 sons, Michael P. Kirk and his wife Delaina, Topeka, and Ryan P. Kirk and his wife Adrian, Wakefield; a brother, James Robert Kirk, Stockton, Calif.; a sister, Carol Hudson, Stockon, Calif.; and a grandson, Christian P. Kirk, Manhattan. John was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Ronnie and Donnie Kirk; and a granddaughter, Heather Kirk in 2003.
The family has chosen cremation.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 6, 2019 at St. Xavier Catholic Church, with Fr. Gnanaskekar Kulandai presiding. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, prior to the Mass, also at the church. The burial of the ashes will follow at Highland Cemetery, Wakefield. Military Honors will be presented by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley at the cemetery.
