John S. Harmon
John S. Harmon was born the thirteenth child to John S. Harmon II and Julia A. (Smith) Harmon, on August 22, 1922, at Bartow, Ga. He entered military service on 3 December, 1942 at Media, PA, and served his country honorably through WW II, Korea, and Viet Nam. He was recognized for his service with numerous awards, including the Bronze Star, and the Army Commendation with Oak Leaf Clusters.
John Harmon retired from the military on April 1, 1971, and began a civil service career. He worked at Fort Riley from October 1971 through October 1983.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church from 1966 through October 1981, and later was active at the Fort Riley chapels. He also was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Pearl Harbor #16 chapter of Junction City, Kansas.
John married Yoshino Herbison in Geary County on July 24, 1959.
Mr. Harmon was preceded in death by his father and mother, his wife, and several sisters and brothers.
He is survived by one sister, Jessie Harris of Blackshear, Ga., two step children, C.C. Herbism of Lawrence, Kansas, and Tonya Farmer of Kansas City, Missouri. He is also survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Cremation is planned with inurnment at the Columbarium, Arlington National Cemetery.
