Services for John H. Leonard, 86, of Junction City will be 11 a.m., Thursday, January 11, 2007, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor James H. Callaway officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at the Wamego City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6-8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Mr. Leonard passed away January 8th at Valley View Professional Care Center. Memorial contributions may be given to the Fellowship Fund, First Baptist Church, 624 N. Jefferson, Junction City, KS 66441 and/or Friends of Animals, P.O. Box 580, Junction City, KS 66441.
John was born April 16, 1920, Wamego, KS to James J. and Eva C. (Clay) Leonard. He attended schools in Wamego and graduated in 1938. He served 3 years in the U S Army, one year in the states and 2 years in Italy. He owned and operated Peter Pan Food Store for 47 1/2 years in Junction City, Kansas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, serving as trustee for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion, Elk's Lodge, Geary County Historical Society and the Sertoma Club. He served as Director for the Open Door and Good Samaritan.
He was married to Marion Bushell, she preceded him in death in 1983, he married Naomi J. (Carlson) Braden in 1984, she survives of the home.
Other survivors include son, Larry W. Leonard, daughter, Marilyn S. Short, four step-children, Greg Braden, Mike Braden, Ladd Braden and Amy Dye, seven Grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Greg Braden, Mike Braden, Ladd Braden, Scott Leonard, Scot Dye and Richard Short.
Organist will be Florence Whitebread and vocalist will be Gail Dye
