John F. Johnson, 55, of Junction City, passed away Nov. 3, 2003 at Geary Community Hospital. Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Graveside service will be Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, 11:00 a.m. at Highland Cemetery in Minneapolis, KS, with full military honors. Father Ken Lohrmeyer will officiate.
John was born Nov. 13, 1947, in Elmhurst, IL, son of Clyde H. and Barbara M. (Klapkowski) Harrison. His parents died when he was an infant. He was then adopted by Albert T. and Mabel (Browne) Johnson of Mountain View, CA, where he was raised and graduated from Mountain View High School. John was an E-5 Sergeant in the United States Army and served in Viet Nam for six months, where he received the Purple Heart. John married Hannelore Beitz in 1969. They had one son Michael Johnson, and a daughter Dinah Johnson. After the Army, John was a warehouse foreman for BX/PX in Berlin for 24 years. He moved to Junction City in 1992, where he worked at Fort Riley as a warehouse foreman with AAFES until his retirement in 1994.
John married Sheryl Carroll Apr. 19, 1996 in Minneapolis, KS. He was a member of the Viet Nam Veterans Association and was Roman Catholic.
Survivors include his Wife; Sheryl of Junction City, one son; Micheal Johnson of Berlin, Germany, one daughter; Dinah Johnson of Berlin, Germany, two step-daughters; Collette Welch-Field of MS and Christina Winter of NC, one step-son; J.L. Carroll of Junction City, one brother, William Johnson of ID; one sister, Nancy Collins of Tiffen, OH; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents.
