John R. Cox

August 25, 1952 — January 25, 2025

Junction City

Johnny (John) R. Cox, 72, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on January 28, 2025, at Stormont Vail - Flint Hills Campus.

John was born on August 25, 1952, to Laverne and Phyllis Cox. He grew up with two brothers and two sisters in Aurora, Colorado.

Growing up John would be considered a "military brat". His family had many adventures traveling around the world, following his father's military career.

John saw himself as an audacious man. At the age of eighteen, he left home with his childhood friend, Ricky Joe Houser and made it from Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri to Dallas, Texas. They worked odd jobs and built a foundation for his future in Texas. Once he gained some stability, he found a career in the printing industry. Later, a career in truck driving.

His family will always remember his interesting stories about life. John found a way to turn his stories about his younger life into life lessons for his whole family.

John would consider his entire family as his passion. He worked and strived to take care of them throughout the entirety of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Judy; five children, Christie (Frank) Butler, Eric (Michelle) Cox, Rina Cox, Jr. (Emily) Jean, and Robert (Megan) Jean; seven siblings, Phillip (Ami Jo) Cox, Shelley (Mike) Gerber, Chris (Sandy) Cox, Fran Carrigan, Robert (Bob) Cox, Jesse (Terry) Cox, and Cara (Jack) Lukasik; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his best friend, Sam Loveless, and a host of other loving family and friends.

John is preceded in death by his parents.
