SSG John Pershing Browning, Retired, 94, of Junction City, died May 28, 2013 at his home. He was born Dec. 4, 1918 in Union County, Mississippi, the son of J.L. & Cassie Turner Browning. John was retired from the U.S. Army, after serving in both WWII and the Korean War and serving his country for a total
of 28 years, and 10 months. John was a member of the First Baptist Church of Junction City.
John married Agnes Woerndell in DeRidder, Louisiana on Oct. 19, 1944. She survives. Other survivors include: 3 sons, John Browning and his wife Shirley, Wichita, William R. Browning and wife Mary, Aurora, Colo., and Jimmie Browning and his wife Deborah Scattarelli, Osakis, Minn.; a daughter, Sandra Birtwhistle and her husband Dennis, Chester, Virginia. He was preceded in death by 19 siblings.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Junction City, with Pastor James Callaway presiding. The family will greet friends 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. The committal service will be later that day at 2:00 p.m. at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Manhattan. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley. Memorial contributions may made to the First Baptist Church in Junction City.
