John A. Beall, 61, Junction City, died on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at his residence in Junction City. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St. . Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd., Manhattan, KS 66502 with full military honors. Memorial contributions in John's memory have been designated either to the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW. Arrowhead Rd., Topeka, KS 66604 or to the Disabled American Veterans, VA Hospital Bldg #24 RM 106G, 2200 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka, KS 66622.
John was born on January 17, 1951 to Ernest and Theresa Beall in Montezuma, Kansas. John joined the United States Army in 1968 and he served overseas in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. John was an excellent soldier and he served his country proudly for over 21 years before retiring in 1996 at Fort Riley, KS.
Upon his retirement from the military, he went to work for Millennium Railroad in Junction City as a welder. He worked for over 18 years at the company serving as the floor supervisor and the office supervisor; he retired for the second time in 2008.
One of John's greatest enjoyments was his love of the outdoors: he loved fishing, hunting, and he loved a good round of golf. Two of his greatest companions were his two canine friends, his golden retriever, Sydney Rose and his Lhasa Apso, Toto. John was also a very talented artist and could often be seen drawing whatever he could put his eyes on. He was also a very devoted K-State Wildcats fan.
He loved his family and he loved his country.
John is survived by wife, Sharon Beall of Junction City, by his mother, Theresa Drabent of Pensacola, FL, and by two daughters, Shannon and husband Phil Knapp of Leavenworth, KS and Stevie and husband Vern Harris of Orange City, FL. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory 10 grandchildren: Sheridan Peoples, Taylor Harris, Jennifer Knapp, Micaela Elliott, Jaden Knapp, William A. Vore, Nicholas Vore, Brittany Vore, Amber Nickland, and Michael Nickland. Also surviving him are four sisters, Sandra and husband Dennis Masser of Huntsville, AL; Noreen "Beanie" Schmitz of Pensacola, FL; Kathrine "Kate" and partner Myra of Pensacola, FL; Theresa "Tilly" and husband Frank Pelz of Aurora, CO and one brother, Harold and wife Jerry of Tulsa, OK.
John was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Beall and by one brother, Bill Beall.
