Joe P. Grimes

Joe P. Grimes, 69, of Junction City, KS, passed away on August 7, 2016 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

Visitation will be Friday, August 12, 2016, starting at 6:00 p.m. and ending at 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, 203 N. Washington St., Junction City, KS.

Military Honors will take place during the visitation at 7:00 p.m.

Joe was born December 6, 1946, to Amon and Betty Jo (Lane) Grimes in Quitman, Arkansas. Growing up, he spent much of his time with his Granny. She was a second mother to him throughout his life.

He joined the United States Army on August 30, 1966, as an Artilleryman. His many honors and decorations include: The National Defense Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Army Achievement Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon "3", Overseas Service Ribbon "3", Army Lapel Button, and Expert (M-16 Rifle). After proudly serving for over 20 years, he retired in Fort Riley, Kansas.

Joe loved his family. There was nothing more important to him. He would call His brother, Jack, every Sunday afternoon. He spent as much time as he could with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also loved his dog "little man" very much. "Little man" was part of the family.

Joe will be missed.

He is survived by his loving family: wife Vivian A. Grimes of Junction City, KS; three sons Keithin J. Grimes and wife Mandy of Junction City, KS, Charles R. Grimes of Junction City, KS, and Chris M. Sacher and wife Cathi of Abilene, KS; daughter Rosalee A. Sacher and partner Toni of Junction City, KS; three grandsons Alan Michael J. Grimes and wife Sarah of Manhattan, KS, Robert L. Grimes and girlfriend Sara of Manhattan, KS, and Kelvin A. Sacher of Abilene, KS; five granddaughters Heather L. Grimes and fiancé Caleb of LA, Cheyenne M. Sacher of Junction City, KS, Sara Grimes of AR, Winter A. Grimes of AR, and Ciara R. Smith of Junction City, KS; great-grandson Logan Grimes of Manhattan, KS; great-granddaughter Arianna R. Garcia of TX; his brother Jack Grimes and wife Jennie of Houston TX, and his sister Joyce Mills and husband Ron of Conway, AR.
He was preceded in death by his parents Amon and Betty Jo Grimes, his Granny, and his Paps.
