Funeral services for Joanne E. Young, 64, of Junction City will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the First Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Nate Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held Tuesday,September 20, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Joanne passed away at the Colmery O'Neil VA Medical Center, Topeka, KS. In lieu of flowers memorials have been designated to the First Southern Baptist Church, 1220 W. 8th Street, Junction City, KS 66441.
Joanne was born February 13, 1947, Ravenna, OH to Dale and Dorothy (Mitchelly) Pitsinger. She joined the U. S. Navy September 28, 1966 serving during the Vietnam era she was honorably discharged in 1977 as a E-6 First Class and then was a Lab Technician at the Naval Hospital in San Diego. She was very active in the First Southern Baptist Church and the Lion's Club.
She is survived by her sister, Janice Hutchinson of Junction City, KS, her cousins, Kathy Hall (Dave) of Atwater, OH and their three children, Suzanne Pugh (Jim) of Cambridge, OH and Bob Seymour of Maine, four nieces, Aaliyah, Dawn, Jennifer and Kristina and one nephew, Michael. She is also survived by many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Betty Lou Wareham and Edith Susan Pitsinger.
