Funeral services for JoAnn Ritter Lee, 69, of Milford, KS will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the Zion United Church of Christ with Pastor Russell Glaser officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 7, 2006, 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington. Joann D. Lee passed away March 5, 2006 at Geary Community Hospital. Memorial contributions may be given to the Zion United Church of Christ, 1811 McFarland Road, Junction City, KS 66441.
Joann was born July 7, 1936 in Junction City, KS the daughter of Samuel Otto and Dorothy (Duffy) Ritter. She attended Spring Valley School and graduated from Junction City High School in 1954. She graduated from Emporia State University in 1958 with a BS degree in Secondary Education. She taught English in Council Grove, KS, Junction City, KS and was a Middle School counselor in Los Angeles, CA.
She was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha social sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma, J.C. Fort Riley Panhellenic Organization, Home Literary Club, and Zion United Church of Christ.
She was married to Alex Lee on June 2, 1958, he survives of the home. Also surviving are a son Stuart Lee and his wife Nancy of Torrance, CA, and a daughter Jennifer Smith and her husband Tracy of Arlington, VA; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Lee, Sophia Lee, and Alexander Smith. She is also survived by her sister Janette Vogelsang, and husband Doug of Junction City, KS, and a brother in law David Lee and wife Darlene of Ft. Worth, TX, and sister in laws Edna Ritter and Uta Ritter, both of Junction City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Dorothy Ritter and two brothers, Sammie Ritter, and William "Bill" Ritter.
Joann was an avid reader and loved books. Her wit and intellect will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
