Visitation for family and friends will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., an hour prior to the service.
Joan was born on June 20, 1923 to Frank and Joy Ferris in Lincoln, Nebraska. While studying at the University of Nebraska, Joan met the love of her life, Merle Brock Reynoldson. Joan and Merle were married on March 21, 1942 in Ansley, Nebraska, and enjoyed over 69 years of marriage - traveling, golfing, and spending time with family and friends.
Always by Merle's side, Joan endured his 3½ years overseas during World War II and his subsequent four years of optometric training at the Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois. Following his graduation, Joan and Merle made their home in Junction City, Kansas, starting an optometric practice in 1948. Joan had a busy career as well, working for Townsends Department Store and Wuethricks' Bookstore before spending the last 25 years of her career as a bookkeeper for Johnson Brothers' Furniture.
Joan's passion throughout the years has always been golf, a sport she enjoyed with family and friends on courses all over the world. Playing golf into her eighties, one of Joan and Merle's most memorable rounds took place at the "Home of Golf" - the Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland. Both as a couple and later with various ladies' groups, Joan enjoyed playing bridge until the time of her passing. In addition, Joan was a talented seamstress, making her grandson's Halloween costumes, and needlepointing a variety of cherished keepsakes. Envied by many, Joan's culinary talents in the kitchen were unique - adding a "pinch of this and that" to make the perfect meal!
Joan is survived by her daughter, Joy Meyer, and son Guy and wife Marilyn, all of Junction City. Also, surviving is her grandson, David, of Wichita, Kansas, as well as her stepsister, Carol Clark, of Lincoln, Nebraska. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Merle, siblings Jean, Jack, and Jim and one son-in-law Leonard Meyer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been designated to the First United Methodist Church of Junction City and the Salvation Army.
