Joan Arlene Martin, 79, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Abilene Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the Johnson Funeral Home 203 N. Washington Street. Burial will follow the funeral at Milford Cemetery. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at the Johnson Funeral Home. Pastor Geoffrey Gunter of Broken Arrow, OK. will officiate. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Joint Milford Cemetery Board for beautification projects left in care of the funeral home.
Joan was born March 20, 1939 in Milford, KS, the daughter of George Payne and Dorothy (Moyer) Shandy.
On June 23, 1957, she married Bill Martin in Milford, KS. They made their home in Junction City and were married for fifty years raising three children. Joan enjoyed a long career with the Federal Civil Service having retired with over thirty three years of service. She graduated from the Milford High School with the class of 1957. Following retirement, she was active with the National Association Retired Federal Employees, holding several local offices. She also enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her flower garden. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and traveling with them.
Joan in survived by one son, Kyle Martin of Mayetta, KS; two daughters, Kimberly Ortiz of Topeka, KS and Kelly Fulk of Junction City, KS and Kelly's friend Sidney Hammond of Abilene, KS and other daughterTerri Chaney of Junction City, KS. One, brother Gary "Gabe" Shandy of Milford, KS. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill Martin; two brothers, Kenneth Shandy and Ronald Shandy and one son-in-law, Richard (Rick) Fulk.
