Jerry Dean Isely, 64, of Junction City, KS, formerly of Janesville, WI, passed away on April 17, 2019.
A visitation will be held Thursday, April 25, 2019, from 10:30 am. to 12:30 pm. at the Johnson Funeral Home of Junction City, KS, 203 N. Washington St.
A Graveside Service with full military honors will be held at 1:00 pm. after visitation at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Fort Riley, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd., Manhattan, KS, with Chaplain Joanna Forbes officiating.
Jerry was born on September 1, 1954, in Monroe, Wisconsin to Howard and Anna (Wafler) Isely. He went to Purcell Grade School which was a one room school. A few years later he went to Monticello Grade School. Jerry then attended high school at both Craig High School in Janesville then at Monroe High School in Monroe. Before he graduated, he decided to dedicate his life in the defense of American freedoms and enlisted in the United States Army. He Proudly served for 20 years. In this time, he was attached to the 116th Infantry Division and served in the Gulf War. Jerry earned many medals and decorations to include but are not limited to: The Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal W/Bronze Star, Army Lapel Button, Overseas Service Ribbon "3", NCO Professional Development Ribbon "3", Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Army Achievement Medal W/1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Southwest Asia Service Medal W/2 Bronze Stars, Marksman (M16 Rifle), Army Commendation Medal W/1st Oak Leaf Cluster, and The Combat Infantryman Badge.
He retired from Small Arms Range to take care of his wife fighting cancer.
Jerry was very proud of his military accomplishments. He continued to honor those roots as a member of the American Legion Post #45
Jerry is survived by his loving family: wife, Betty of the home; mother of his children and former spouse Karen Gobrecht; two daughters, Linda (David) Burke of Darlington, WI, Merranda (Paul) Lynch of Monona, WI; one son, Noll (Sarah) Isely of Oshkosh, WI; two granddaughters Brittany Jenson (friend, Zach Schroeder) and Addison Isely; two brothers Paul Isely and Dwayne Isely both of Monroe, WI; three sisters, Dolores (Darrell) Block of Janesville, WI, Emily (Greg) Wild of Monroe, WI, and Wanda (Kenneth) Slack of Juda, WI; one sister-in-law Lela Isely of Monroe, WI; three step-children, Dennis (Teena) Wilkerson of Navarre, FL, Dana (Scott) Wagner of Malden, IL and Doris (David) Romi of Archie, MO and a host of loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers John and Arland Isely, and one sister-in-law Patty Isely, and one niece Dawn Niedermeier.
