SFC Jerry Louis Greer (Retired), 65, of Junction City, died at his home on Saturday, June 8, 2019. Jerry was born January 6, 1954 in Racine, WI, the son of L. Book and Priscilla (Williamson) Greer.
Jerry attended schools in Racine, and graduated from Case High School. He later earned his Associates Degree from Central Texas College while stationed at Ft. Riley.
Jerry entered the U.S. Army and spent a 22 year career in the military. He worked as a cook, and later as a Food Service Manager. He was the Head Chef for and General Aide for General Rhame while at Ft. Riley. After he retired from the U.S. Army, Jerry worked for 17 years in Food Service at Irwin Army Community Hospital.
He was a member of Kaw Blue Masonic Lodge #107 F & AM, Manhattan, and the William Leroy Talbot, Post #8773 of the V.F. W. in Junction City.
He was assigned overseas at various military bases. During his off-time, he would referee football, basketball, and other sports. He often said he was an "International Referee".
It was Jerry's wish to be cremated.
Jerry is survived by 2 daughters, Demetrea Bishop and her husband, Larry, and Andria Robinson and her husband, Adrian, all of Hephzibah, Georgia; a brother, Little Book Greer, Waterloo, Iowa; 2 sisters, Particia Sorrel, Belden, Mississippi, and Linda Greer and husband Curtis Coppage, Chicago, Illinois; and 3 grandchildren, Makayla Bishop, Marcus Bishop, and Alexandria Robinson. Jerry was preceded death by his parents, a sister Deborah Abbott, and a neice, Aretha Abbott.
A Home Going Celebration will be celebrated at the William Leroy Talbot, Post #8773, of the V.F.W. in Junction City, on Saturday, June 15, 2019, 12:00 p.m-2:00 p.m. Burial of the ashes will be at a later date in Racine, WI.
