Funeral services for Jererline "Jewel" Reed 59, Junction City will be 11a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Second Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Leonard Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Reed passed away September 10, 2008 in Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be 6-8pm Friday, September 19, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue. Memorial contributions may be made in Jewell's name and sent in care of the funeral home.
Jewel was born April 6, 1949 to Delila (Clinton) and Sylvester Crawford in Sarah, MS. She devoted her life to Christ at an early age and later joined the community outreach ministry under Pastor Dorothy Garland. She was united in holy matrimony on April 16, 1975 to Willie Reed, to this union two children were born. Willie preceded her in death in 1997. Jewel devoted most of her earlier years to her children, she loved to cook. She also had a special love for her two pets, "Buzz and Chief".
Despite her disability, she was determined to care for others, especially her long time friend, Denivel Grant, Jr. She worked as a bus aid for five years. She also cared for children that were victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Survivors include a daughter; Myrtle Crawford of Memphis, TN, son Christopher Reed of Junction City, KS, one Aunt; Lottie Crawford of St. Louis, MO, two sisters; Lillie Clark of Chicago, IL and Maggie Bowden of Memphis TN, a brother; Louis Crawford of Lakewell, FL, six grandchildren who she raised as her own, Rickie Reyes, DeAndre Crawford, Lakeisha Lavan, Samarrah Rubit, Jamal Crawford and Brigette Gray, one great granddaughter; Ayannah Fonseca, eight special nieces; Angela Clark, Joyce Ranson, Frankie Kirk, Kim Clark, Rene Burnett, Natoya Trezvant and Diartra Drone and Patricia Clay, three nephews; Randy Clark, Darrick Bowden, and Willie Rucker and a host of cousin's, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers; Roosevelt Bowden and Charles Crawford and longtime companion Denivel Grant, Jr.
