Jennie L. McKay, 78, was called to be with the Lord and Savior on January 14, 2013.

She was born to Jesse Hartsfield and Lillian (Barnes) Hartsfield, in Greenwood, Florida, on July 27, 1934. She was a member of Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in Greenwood. She was married to Alex McKay on September 5, 1954, in Elizabethtown, Indiana, while Alex was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky. To this union, six loving children were born. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Jennie worked civil service for the Commissary at Fort Riley, Kansas, for eighteen years.

Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Lillian Hartsfield, son, Deric J. McKay, aunt, Mamie Barnes, uncle, Daniel Barnes, and brother, Willie Barnes. She is survived by her husband, Alex, sons, Alex McKay, Jr., and Eric D. McKay and his wife Dorothy, of Junction City, daughters, Nadine R. McKay of Atlanta, Georgia, Bridget L. McKay and Stephanie M. El Sayed, both of Heidelberg, Germany, and one adored grandson, Mezzan M. El Sayed of New Orleans, Louisiana. Sisters, Chris B. Gibson, Mary B. Britt and her husband, Durance, of Campbellton, Florida, and Ethel B. Ruth and her husband, John, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jennie embraced her first cousins, Freddie L. Barnes (Emma) of Langdale, Alabama, and Joe Barnes (deceased) as her younger brothers. Brothers-in-law, Lee McKay (deceased) and his wife, Elizabeth, Johnnie B. McKay, Wesley McKay and his wife Ernestine, Rozell McKay, and KW McKay, all of Jackson County, Florida. Sisters-in-law, Callie Young and Lillian Wilson and her husband, Joe, of Jackson County, Florida, and a host of dearly loved step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, step-great-great children, nieces, great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private service will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at the Mass-Hinitt Chapel in Junction City, Kansas, and burial following at Highland Cemetery.
