Memorial services for Jean A. Hoppas, 60, of Junction City will be Friday, October 20, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue, with Pastor Ronnie Roberts of the First Christian Church officiating. Mrs. Hoppas passed away at Comfort Care Home in Wichita, KS on October 13, 2006. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorder Association, Topeka Chapter, 515 S. Kansas, Suite B2, Topeka, KS 66603.
Mrs. Hoppas was born November 26, 1945 in Colby, KS the daughter of Samuel and Wilma Faye (Robb) Klaurens. Jean was raised on a farm near Menlo, KS. She met Stephen Hoppas while attending Fort Hays State University and they married December 27, 1964 in Menlo. Jean received her BA in Music Education and Masters in Education from Kansas State University. Jean taught at several schools in USD 475 and retired in 2001. She was active in the community with the Junction City Arts Council, as director of the Zion United Church of Christ choir and as a performer in several productions at the Junction City Little Theatre.
Jean is survived by her children, Jeremy Hoppas of Olathe, KS and Justin Hoppas of Wichita, KS; brothers, Bob Klaurens of Marquette, KS and Rex Klaurens of Universal City, TX; father-in-law Virgil Hoppas of Oberlin, KS and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen on July 16, 2004.
