Jean Archer Craig born August 4, 1925 in Sandoval Illinois and died August 27, 2015 in Junction City Kansas. She was married to James V. "Jim" Craig for 54 years from 1948 until his death in 2003.
She earned a B.S. and M.S. in Foods and Nutrition from the University of Illinois, and after raising her sons returned to work in the Foods and Nutrition Department at Kansas State University.
She dedicated her life to caring for others: family, friends, neighbors, graduate students, or anyone needing a little help was welcome to free babysitting, freshly baked cookies, or a home-cooked meal. As a Cub Scout den mother she created arts and craft projects, sewed many elaborate costumes, built countless scenery props for plays and many fond memories for the participants.
She was always ready to help foreign visitors adjust to life in Kansas including being active in the K.S.U. group World Friendship, and she leaves behind many friends around the world. After their retirement Jim and Jean worked as docents at the Konza Prairie Preserve in Manhattan, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents John Major Archer and Freda Fern Archer (nee Richard), Husband James V. Craig, sisters Mariam Nichols and Virginia Olson, and brother John Archer. Survivors include sons Thomas (Brenda Bergstrom), Timothy (Joanne Itami), William (Anna Nedeau), and four grandchildren Rebecca (Andrew Swarts) Craig, James (Sarah Bujarski) Craig, Linda Craig and Paul Craig.
