Jay Phillip Self, 64, of Junction City, KS passed away August 3, 2012 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan, KS after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Ward Chapel A M E Church, 1711 N. Jefferson Street, Junction City, KS. Viewing will be held at 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Cremation will follow the services.
Jay was born December 22, 1947, Lincoln, NE to Nolan and Wilma (Pollette) Self. Jay was the Treasurer of the JCHS class of 1965, after graduation he attended Emporia State College, formerly Emporia State Teachers College receiving a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business.
After graduation, Jay worked in the Kansas City, MO area in numerous positions in the finance and accounting fields. Jay moved to San Francisco, CA to pursue his passion of working in the field of fine/modern arts. After retiring he moved to Barstow, CA before subsequently moving to Junction City, KS.
He is survived by his parents, Nolan and Wilma Self of Junction City, KS, six brothers; Larry (Diane), of Martinsburg, WV; Bill (Judy) of Honolulu, HI; Frank (Shirley) of Charlotte, NC; Steve (Jane) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Ron (Rachelle) of American Canyon, CA; and Curtis (Charlotte) of Manhattan, KS, one sister-in-law, Barbara Self of Manhattan, KS; nineteen nieces and nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his younger brother Mark Self.
Pallbearers will be Larry Self, Frank Self, Steve Self, Ronnie Self, Curtis Self, Frank Earl Self and
Mark Self, Jr.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made at the Good Shepherd Hospice House, 3801 Vanesta Drive, Manhattan, KS 66503 or the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Road, Topeka, KS 66604.
