Jane H. Roether, 87, of Junction City, Kansas died on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2024, at Milford Cemetery with Reverend Rex Matney officiating.
Memorial donations are suggested to be given to Valley View Senior Life Center Activities Fund 1417 W. Ash Street Junction City, Kansas 66441.
Jane was born August 23, 1937, in Kansas City, Kansas the daughter of Frank P. and Harriet M. (Haviland) Taylor.
Jane graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in Mission, Kansas with the class of 1955. She attended Kansas State University. She graduated from Kansas State University in 1972 with Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education. She later graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Curriculum and Education. When she first attended Kansas State University, she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She left college after three years to marry Douglas Roether.
As an artist, she would sell a lot of her work on the Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri. She also worked at the Internal Revenue Service in Kansas City, Missouri. After moving to Junction City, she worked as a Secretary at Fort Riley Middle School and the office of Geary County Treasurer Marie Johnson.
Jane was a long time art educator in Junction City, Kansas having taught at Junction City Junior High School.
Jane was a member of the Oatley Family Association, Polly Ogden Chapter of The Daughter's of the American Revolution (DAR), National Society Dames of the Court of Honor, Junction City Arts Council, Chapter A.R. of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Kansas State Alumni Association, President's Club of Kansas State University and served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Geary County.
Jane was very active in the community and had many interests. In the 1970's she spent many Friday nights with her husband Douglas traveling as a scout for Coach Simpler and the Junction City High School Football Team. She enjoyed playing bridge with the Grandmother's Club, attending Brown's Auctions, traveling the world with travels to Europe, Mexico, Jamaica and throughout the United States. She enjoyed spending time in Cascade, Colorado. Her favorite local places were the Lake of the Ozark's and spending time at Milford Lake. Over the years, she enjoyed playing couples golf. A highlight of her golfing was assisting with the LPGA Golf Tournament with her husband Douglas at the Broadmoor Golf Club. Music was very important to Jane. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed playing the piano. Her favorite pieces included the Warsaw Concerto by Richard Addinsell and Moonlight Sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven.
On December 27, 1957, she married Douglas D. Roether. He died October 31, 2019.
Other survivors include two daughters, Lizabeth T. Rosewicz (Gary) of St. George, Kansas and Dana D. Williamson (Chuck) of Junction City, Kansas; one granddaughter, Taylor Williamson-Johnston (Nic) of Nashville, Tennessee; one sister, Anne Parrish of Virginia Beach, Virginia; one sister-in-law Ruth Davis of Dover, Ohio; many nieces and nephews.
