Jane Brown Loeb

Jane Brown Loeb of Overland Park, beloved wife of Jeff Loeb and loving mother of Andi Catherine Loeb, died on October 2, 2003 after a courageous two-year battle with ovarian cancer. To all who knew her, she was an active, generous person who gave herself completely to helping other people, especially the young. Jane was especially interested in assisting children with disabilities seek their full potential and dedicated the last several years of her life to this goal.

Jane was born in Junction City, Kansas, on October 5, 1942, to William and Astachia (Forrester) Brown. She attended Brookside Country School in Geary County through eighth grade, and graduated in 1960 from Chapman High School. She then attended Kansas State University, where she received a BS in Art Education in 1968. She taught art and photography, as well as coaching girls' tennis, at Junction City Junior High School from 1969 until 1978. In 1980 she received a MS in special education from KSU with an emphasis on Gifted, and subsequently taught gifted education at Junction City Junior High and St. Xavier High School, also of Junction City, for two years, from 1980 until 1982, when she left to start her own photography business, Studio Prints, Inc. She and her husband, Jeff, operated this studio in Junction City for eight years, until they moved to the Overland Park area. In the intervening time, Jane also earned another MS, in Curriculum and Instruction, and she served as a gifted education instructor in several Shawnee Mission high schools, and founded the district's Mentorship Program in 1991. She coordinated this program until 1998 when she began a private practice as an educational therapist working with children with learning disabilities.

She is survived by her husband, Jeff, who teaches English at The Pembroke Hill School, a daughter, Andi, who attends Mission Valley Middle School, an older brother, Bill Brown, and his wife, Elaine, of Abilene, Kansas, and several aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and in-laws. Jane was preceded in death in 1978 by a son, Kirt More.

Funeral services will be held at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Junction City on Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Christina Zito of the Asbury Methodist Church, Prairie Valley, KS. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Junction City immediately afterwards. Jane has asked that memorials and donations in lieu of flowers be made in her name to one of the following: Asbury United Methodist Church Youth Program, 5400 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208, or Sisters Servants of Mary nurses, 800 N. 18th Street, Kansas City, KS 66102.

Pallbearers will be Ray Blew Scott Brown, Doug Engstrom, Larry Gates, Steve Salinger and Dennis Westover. Musicians will be Florence Whitebread and Manuel Pasquil
