James E. Parker, 62, of Junction City, KS, passed away on March 1, 2019.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 11, 2019, from 11:00 am. to 12:30 pm. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington St., Junction City, KS.

A graveside with military honors will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan,KS.

Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Junction City/Geary County Animal Shelter, 2424 N. Jackson St., Junction City, KS 66441.

James was born on January 7, 1957, in Van Nuys, California to Robert and Frances (Mallery) Parker. He lived his childhood in California until his adolescence. He then moved to Wichita, KS. At twenty years old, he enlisted in the United States Army in Kansas City, Missouri. James dedicated over twenty years of his life in service to his beloved country. He earned many decorations and awards during his service. They include, but are not limited to: Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Sharpshooter Marksman Qualification Badge W/ Rifle Bar, Sharpshooter Marksman Qualification Badge W/ Grenade Bar, and Army Lapel Button.

On May 7, 1983, he married Barbara Miller in Junction City, Kansas. Barbara and James ultimately settled in Junction City, Kansas to be closer to family.

He was always proud of his military service, but in his leisure time he loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also had a love of fine music, specifically Lynyrd Skynyrd, but he loved that generation of rock music.

Well done, good and faithful soldier. Now it's time for rest.

James is survived by his loving family: wife, Barbara of the home; son, Daniel (and wife Lisa McKinney) Crawford of Junction City, KS; daughter, Ashley (and husband Daniel) Kaleta of Junction City, KS; three grandchildren, Raynah Johnson, McKinley Crawford, and Elizabeth Kaleta; brother, Phillip Parker of Wichita, KS; sister, Susan (and husband Chuck) Hendricks of Wichita, KS; brother-in-law, Kevin Burgardt of Wichita, KS, and a host of loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frances and Robert Parker, sister Virginia Burgardt, and sister-in-law Donna Parker.
