Funeral Services for SFC E-7 James Price Meigs, Jr, (Retired Buffalo Soldier), 88, Junction City, will be11: a.m., Monday, April 3, 2006 at Second Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Leonard Gray officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Fort Riley Cemetery. Mr. Meigs passed away March 26, 2006 at Select Specialty Hospital in Topeka, KS. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, April 2, 2006 at Penwell Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline. J.P. was born February 15, 1918 in Tahlequah, OK the son of James P. and Martha (Evans) Meigs, Sr. He completed Lincoln High School in 1935 in Nowata, OK. In 1937 he entered the US Army serving 30 years, 4 months and twenty six days. He served in WW I, WW II and the Korean Conflict. He was one of the last of the original "Buffalo Soldiers" who served in the 9th Calvary.
On August 3, 1940 he was married to Beatrice L. Johnson and was married for 65 wonderful years. J.P. joined Second Missionary Baptist Church in 1938. He served as Assistant Financial Secretary, Clerk of the Men's Class for several years and attended Sunday School and church regularly.
His parents, two brothers, Cecil and Joe and one sister Arnetha, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice, of the home, son Jimmy Meigs, Kansas City, MO, brother Marion Meigs, VA, one grandson and three granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren, and seven foster children.
J.P. will be remembered for his generosity as well as the numerous smiles he placed upon small faces with "Silver Dollars" He was a true blessing to all he encountered and will be missed by all.
