SFC (Retired) James Edward Marsh, 70, of Junction City, KS, passed away, Monday October 5, 2020 at Stormont Vail in Topeka Kansas. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Marsh will lie in state 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at the Johnson Funeral Home 203 N. Washington Street Junction City, KS. Memorial donations are suggested to be given to the organization of the donor's choice.
James was born on April 16, 1950, in Mariemont, Ohio the son of George and Retha (Dean) Marsh.
He married Gwendolyn Koons on April 10, 1971.
James spent 25 years in the United States military until he retired in 1997. He served in the United States Air Force and the United States Army. During his career he was stationed at Lackland AFB in TX, Sheppard AFB in TX, Rickenbacker Ohio, Fort Leonard Wood MO, Fort Benning GA (twice including for ANCOC), Fort Chafee AR, Korea, Fort Ben Harrison, Defiance OH where he served as recruiter, Berlin Germany, and Fort Riley KS (4 times) until he retired from the home of the Big Red ONE. No mission to difficult no sacrifice to great! Duty First! He was very proud of his military career and loved all of his military brothers and sisters. I will always place the mission first, I will never accept defeat, I will never quit, I will never leave a fallen comrade. A hero never dies. James loved to fish, hunt and he was an avid collector of all things frogs. He truly loved his family. He loved all his dogs, Snuggles, Muffin, Bailey, Baby Girl, and Missy.
He was preceded in death by his father George Marsh, mother Retha Marsh, three brothers Carl, Greg, and Jeff Marsh.
He is survived by his wife Gwendolyn (Koons) Marsh of the home in Junction City KS. James and Gwen were married 49 years and she was the love of his life. They were truly the best of friends. Other survivors include his daughter Honey (Melanie) and husband Arthur Bonjour of Berkeley Springs WV, son Risk Marsh of Junction City KS, grandchildren: PFC Christopher Bonjour of Fort Huachuca AZ, Liberty Bonjour of Berkley Springs WV, Jameson Marsh of Drake ND, Jasmine Boes of Bowling Green KY, and great granddaughter Melah Kulhman of Bowling Green KY. Other survivors include numerous relatives and military brothers and sisters.
