James L. (Jamo) Van Zlike, 62, of Junction City, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly September 9, 2016 at Geary Community Hospital in Junction City.
Jamo was born August 8, 1954 at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, the son of James & Pierina (Bernardi) Van Zlike.
Jamo moved to Fort Riley in Junior High School and has lived in the Junction City area for 48 years. He graduated from Junction City High School in 1973. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent 2 years and 4 months in the military before being Honorably Discharged. He received an Associates Degree from Central Texas College. Jamo worked several jobs in Civil Service on Fort Riley, including Army Lodging. After retiring he worked part time at Great Life Golf and Fitness, where he took care of the greens and golf cart maintenance.
Survivors include: 2 sons, Jimmy Van Zlike, Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Corey Van Zlike and his wife Amanda, Junction City; a grandson, Wyatt Van Zlike, Junction City; a sister, Barbara Johnson and her husband Clay, Junction City; his ex-wife, Debbie Jones, Junction City; his father James L. Van Zlike, Junction City; a nephew Jared Johnson and his fiancée Adele (Sis) Malley, Cleveland, Ohio; a niece Alicia Gonzalez and her husband Jose, Lebanon, Pennsylvania. James was preceded in death by his mother, Pierina in 2014.
Jamo will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. His passing has left a terrible void in all of our lives. He always had a smile on his face and was full of life. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, playing golf and his Mini Australian Shepard, Tucker. His grandson Wyatt was the light of his life and brought him tremendous joy.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Junction City Funeral Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, with Pastor Kevin McDonald presiding. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan, KS. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley.
Memorial contributions may be made in James' name to the Ronald McDonald House, sent in care of the funeral home.
