Funeral services with full military honors for MSG (Ret) James L. "Jimmy" Stewart, 68, of Junction City, KS will be 10 a.m., Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Zion United Church of Christ with Pastor Russ Glaser officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 21, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, KS. Mr. Stewart passed away at his residence on October 18, 2009. Memorial contributions have been designated to the Zion United Church of Christ, 1811 McFarland Road, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mr. Stewart was born February 15, 1941, Austin, TX to James L. and Jewell (Faught)Stewart. He joined the U S Army July 8, 1959 serving in Vietnam, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Silver Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Combat Medical Badge, Air Medal, Driver Badge, Overseas Service Ribbon "1", NCO Professional Development ribbon "4", Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Bronze Star Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal (8th Award) and the Meritorious Service Medal w/1st Oak Leaf Cluster. He retired from the U S Army July 31, 1986 after 27 years.
Following his retirement from the U S Army he then worked at Irwin Army Community Hospital. He married Freida Stangl February 5, 1963. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his son, Mike and wife Paulette and three grandchildren Breanna, Sabrina and Sophie.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Fort Riley Honor Guard
Honorary Pallbearers will be James Rhodes, Mike Rhodes, Ronnie Shank, Roscoe Maycroft and Ronald Yodes.
