James Gleason

April 24, 1940 — September 25, 2016

James "Jim" C. Gleason, 76, of Manhattan, KS, passed away on September 25, 2016. Dove Cremation and Funeral Service, of Junction City, KS, is assisting the family with arrangements.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at 2:00 pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2900 Kimball Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502, with Father Frank Coady officiating. Inurnment, with military honors, will take place, Monday, October 3, 2016, 1:00 pm, at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan, KS 66503.

Memorials are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House, 825 SW Buchanan Street, Topeka KS 66606, and Manhattan Catholic Schools, 306 South Juliette Ave., Manhattan, KS, 66502.

Jim was born on April 24, 1940 in Spearville, Kansas to D.V. and Esther (Liebl) Gleason. All through his life, he grew up in agriculture. As a young boy, he helped with the family farm, harboring in him a strong work ethic and love of farming. In 1963, he joined the United States Army. After proudly serving, he attended Kansas State University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture in 1973.

On July 9, 1966 he married Phyllis J. Scott in Ingalls, KS. They have since lived in Manhattan, KS.

Jim was a founding member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Manhattan, KS. He was also a member of The Knights of Columbus of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and The American Legion of Manhattan, KS.

He is survived by his Two Daughters, Gina (Amy Ablian) Gleason of Lee's Summit, MO, and Jamie (John) Robinson of Manhattan, KS; Granddaughter, Hailey M. Robinson of Manhattan, KS; Grandson, Alex J. Robinson of Manhattan, KS; 4 Sisters; 3 Brothers; and a host of loving family.

He was preceded in death by his Wife, Phyllis J. Gleason, Brother, Layton Gleason, Mother, Esther Marie Gleason, and Father, D.V. "Vinnie" Gleason.
