James A. Butler, 85, of Junction City, KS a beloved husband, father, grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2014 at his home. A visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Funeral Chapel 805 Caroline Ave. Masonic Services will follow the visitation starting at 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery 5181 Wildcat Creek Road near Manhattan, KS with full military honors. James A. Butler was born February 14, 1929, in Batesburg, SC, the son of George and Cornelia (Dickerson) Butler. He has resided in Junction City, KS since 1959.
James served in the United States Army having enlisted in Mt. Vernon, New York December 15, 1950. He retired June 23, 1973 as an E-7. He served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. James was a member of the Kaw Blue Lodge #107, Shrine Fayum Temple #209 and the Nathan W. Thatcher Consistory Lodge #107. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Retired Enlisted Association. James served as usher many years at Custer Hill Chapel Church. He loved to cook and fish.
He married Anneliese Fortner January 28, 1958, in Bamberg, Germany.
Survivors include his wife Anneliese of the home. He is survived by one son, Carl Butler of Sierra Vista, AZ, two daughters, Cornelia Butler of Junction City, KS and Eva Sanderson of Frederick, MD. He is survived by one sister, Emma Quarterbaum of Batesburg, SC, twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Joseph Butler, John Henry Williams, J.B. Butler and George Butler, Jr., two sisters, Eva Morris, Mamie Butler, one grandson Carl C. Butler, Jr. and one great-grandson Michael Daniel Russell
