Jack L. Herron, 92, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on October 22, 2016 at Abilene Memorial Hospital. Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, of Junction City, Kansas, is handling arrangements. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2016, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the Junction City Church of the Nazarene, 1025 S Washington St, Junction City, Kansas, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm with Pastor Kevin McDonald officiating. Burial will follow the service at Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery, 2000 Prairie St, Emporia, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to be given to the organization of the donor's choice.
Jack was born on October 10, 1924, Augusta, Kansas, to Walter Jack and Mary Elsie (McIntosh) Herron. On June 29, 1947 he married Wilberta Gay, in Emporia Kansas,. They were married for 52 years. She preceded him in death on October 23, 1999. On August 10, 2009 he married Wilma Beals. Wilma and Jack lived in Junction City, Kansas.
Jack was a member of Junction City Church of the Nazarene. He served in various civic organizations over the years. He was a Reserve Sheriff Deputy for Geary County. He proudly served as a Merchant Marine in World War II and was serving on a ship at Normandy on D-Day. He worked several year as a photographer for the Daily Union; his murals hung in the office of the Daily Union for many years. He also worked as a photographer and lithographer at Fort Riley for many years before he retired. He was an avid reader and photographer, he liked to cut down trees, he loved classical music and his dogs.
Jack is survived by his loving Wife, Wilma Herron of Junction City, KS; Two Daughters, Diane (Grover) Edie of Novi, MI, Donna (Jeffrey) Smith of Topeka, KS; Son, Charles "Chuck" (Pam) Herron of McKean, PA; 10 Grandchildren and 13 Great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Elsie (McIntosh) Herron , Father, Walter Jack Herron, and his first wife, Wilberta "Billie" (Gay) Herron.
