Hugh A. Hoover, 51, of Junction City, KS passed away surrounded by his family on October 13, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.
Hugh was born September 7, 1958 in Hoxie, KS. He attended St. Xaviers Grade School in Junction City and graduated from Clay Center Community High School in Clay Center, KS. In high school, Hugh was active in FFA livestock judging and was a proud member of the state championship chess team with his brother Kevin. He earned his bachelors degree in restaurant management from Kansas State University.
Hugh was a restaurant manager for Taco Bell and Furr's Cafeteria. Hugh also worked for several years for the family's dairy business. Additionally, he raised racing greyhounds that competed on tracks throughout the Midwest. Prior to being hindered by physical challenges, he most recently was employed by the Geary Rehab and Fitness Center.
Hugh was kind and generous and possessed tremendous courage and a positive attitude when facing his challenges. He valued the relationships with his many friends and family. Hugh's passions included cooking, gardening, reading, fishing, watching sports and movies and he especially enjoyed coaching girls' basketball.
Survivors include his mother, Leola, sisters Marie Hernandez and Marcy (Dave)VanLandingham, brothers, Joe (Donna) Hoover, Jr., Jim (Regina) Hoover, Steve (Diane) Hoover, Justin (Ann) Hoover, Mark (Lori) and Kevin (Elaine) Hoover and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Hoover, Sr. and a brother Patrick.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Xaviers at 10:30am on Saturday, October 17th in Junction City. Burial will be in Kimeo, KS.
After mass, all are invited to lunch at Justin and Ann Hoover's residence at 604 N. Spring Valley Road.
