Howard D. Mansfield, 77, of Junction City, formerly of Butler, Illinois, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 at his home in rural Geary County. Howard was born March 23, 1941 in Manor Township, Pennsylvania, the son of Thomas Edison and Hazel Mae (Wyant) Mansfield. He attended schools in Ford City, Pennsylvania and graduated from Ford City High School.
Howard joined the U.S Army and proudly served for 3 years.
After Howard's discharge, he started to work as an Industrial Mechanic for Commonwealth-Edison in Illinois until his retirement. He and his wife had just moved to Junction City, Kansas in July, 2018.
Howard married LaVonne Benninger on September 15, 1962 in Ford City, PA. LaVonne survives of the home. Other survivors include: 2 sons, Edmond R. Mansfield and his wife Caroline, Morrisonville, Illinois, and Christopher P. Mansfield and his wife Gesile, Novinger, Missouri; a daughter, Melissa Huddleston and her husband Edward, Manhattan, KS; 5 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters-in-law, Helen Mansfield and Evelyn Mansfield. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; and 3 brothers, Thomas Edison Mansfield, Lloyd Wyant Mansfield, and Harold Gene Mansfield.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018 at the Wears Grove Lutheran Church, Butler, Illinois. A second service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at the Bethel Lutheran Church, Ford City, PA, with burial in the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
