1SG (RET) Howard Franklin "Gus" Garcia, 84, Junction City, KS, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS. A funeral service will take place 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home. A visitation will be held 10 - 11:30 prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Reverend Joyce Allen will officiate. Burial will take place with military honors at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. After the graveside service, the family will have a reception at the Johnson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Johnson Cancer Research Center c/o of Kansas State University 1 Chalmers Hall 1711 Claflin Road Manhattan, KS 66506
Howard was born September 17, 1937, in Honolulu, HI, the son of Mack and Cecelia (Phillips) Garcia.
Howard served in the United States Army. Howard retired from the United States Army in 1988. After his retirement, he worked for the Geary County Sheriff's Department as a jailor. He was a member of Church of Our Saviour in Junction City.
He married Karin M. Hoefling forty-seven years ago in Junction City, KS.
Survivors include his wife Karin of the home in Junction City; three sons, Leroy K. Garcia of Kailua, HI, Gary F. Martin of Bangor, PA and Michael G. Martin of Aurora, CO; two daughters, Joan L. Orsi of Wiley Ford, WV and Paulette A. Yam of Kapaa, HI; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his loving dog "Cody".
He was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings, and a son, Dino Garcia of Nuuanu, HI.
