Funeral services for MSGT (Ret) Howard Esters, 82, Junction City, KS will be 10 a.m., Monday, July 31, 2006 At Ward Chapel AME Church, 1711 N. Jefferson with Rev. Euzell Ball officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Fort Riley Cemetery. Mr. Esters passed away July 25, 2006 in Topeka, KS. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Sunday July 30, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline. Memorial contributions may be given in Howard's name to his wife Allene Esters in c/o Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mr. Esters was born January 1, 1924, Ashland, AL to Frances Esters. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII and the Korean War, he retired in 1964 as a Master SGT. He was a member of the Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church, a life member of the American Legion and the Disabled Veterans.
He married Allene D. Settle January 7, 1946, she survives of the home.
Other survivors include, one daughter, Pamela Asbury, one son, Galen R. Asbury, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Frances and Arthur Pruett, one brother, James Esters and one granddaughter, Talia Asbury.
Pallbearers will be Fort Riley Honor Guard.
