Horace Sanders, 82, of Junction City, KS passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the Geary Community Hospital. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Funeral Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue.
Horace was born on September 7, 1931, in Denison, TX the son of Roosevelt and Arzula (Hubbard) Sanders. Horace has lived in Junction City since 1994.
Horace served in the U.S. Army. He later worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in New York City. He also worked for the New York Transit Authority as a conductor. He was a past member of the Acacia Lodge #91 in Junction City.
He married Roberta Mitchell October 2, 1950, in Denison, TX. She passed away in 2003.
Horace is survived by his loving Daughters, Marsha White and her husband Darryl of Junction City, KS and Venus Sanders of Columbus, WI. He is survived by his grandchildren Daryl Sanders, Dwayne Sanders, Tavone Sanders, Craig White, Darryl White, Cammeron White and Baylee Smith. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Geneva White, Malik White, Kheasiah White, Ameer White, Jillian White, Myron, Kayla, Jasmine, Shatara, Quinton. Also, one great-great granddaughter Maddison. He is also survived by one niece Judith Sanders and nephews Timothy, Jeffery, Gregory and William, daughter-in-law Katherine Sanders and sister-in-law Ruby Sanders.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one son John Sanders, one granddaughter Anyiah Wesley and one great-granddaughter Brianna White.
