Horace Tyrone Richardson, 70, of Junction City, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014 at Valley View Senior Life in Junction City, KS. A funeral service will take place 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at the Faith Tabernacle Church, 1010 Burke Drive with Pastor Nathan Dudley officiating. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel 203 N. Washington Street. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be given to the Apostolic Academy School.
Horace was born December 19, 1943 in Washington D.C. to parents Sudie Mae Richardson and Coach Valentino Rogers. He resided in North Carolina as a child with his grandparents.
In 1963, Horace enlisted in the Air Force where he served in Vietnam and received the good conduct medal. He was discharged in 1969. In 1976, he once again enlisted, this time into the military.
In 1979, the army stationed Horace in Fort Riley, KS, where he became a member of Faith Tabernacle and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. He remained a member of Faith Tabernacle until he left this life on March 3, 2014.
Throughout his lifetime Horace enjoyed woodworking, photography, and writing Bible studies. Horace stated it was "(his) desire to be a witness of God's goodness and greatness. I am what I am by God's goodness and greatness."
Horace is preceded in death by his grandparents, Gloria and Cleveland Richardson; father, Coach Valentino Rogers; mother, Sudie Mae Richardson; and wife Gladys Marie Lucille Richardson.
He is survived by one daughter, Angelle Richardson of Lindenwold, New Jersey; two brothers, Alan Inman and wife Cynthia of Scarsdale, New York and Kenneth Rogers and wife Angelique of Stone Mountain, Georgia; two sisters, Octavia Ivory and husband Kenneth of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Zelda Grand of McClellanville, South Carolina (deceased as of March 6, 2014); five step-children, David Polk and wife Ada of Fulton, Kentucky, Willie Gardner and wife Marie, Terry Morrow and wife Sherry, Alice Morrow and Ruby Morrow, all of Junction City, Kansas; and a host of family and friends.
Horace is loved and will be greatly missed.
