Services for Hewitt Irl Butler, 84, of Junction City will be Thursday, December 30, 2004, 10 a.m. at the St. Xavier Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 29, 2004, 6-8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Butler passed away at his home on December 25, 2004. Mr. Butler was born March 24, 1920, in Detroit, MI to Irl William and Mary (Hatchett) Butler. He served in the Army Air Corp from 1941-1945 during World War II. He worked as a meat cutter at Kientz IGA from 1960 to 1973 and at the Fort Riley Commissary until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church since 1960, a life member of the VFW Post #1594, life member of DAV Chapter 16, Knights of Columbus Council #1029, NRA, AFGE Local #2324, Relay for Life and had been a 4-H and Boy Scouts Leader. He married Dorothy McClure January 3, 1944, in Henderson, KY; she survives of the home.
Survivors include his two sons, Gerald "Jerry" Butler of Hutchinson, KS and David Butler of Junction City, KS; one daughter, Teresa Metzger of Edmond, OK; one sister, Mary B. Murphy of Columbia, TN; and six granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be the Fort Riley Honor Guard
Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Caspar, Jr., Lawrence Kientz, Glenn Schmutz and Bill Strauss.
Organist will be Anita Hernandez and vocalist will be Joan Keating.
