Hermine M. McDonald
Hermine M. McDonald, 82, of Junction City, died March 21, 2014 at Geary Community Hospital in Junction City, Kansas. Hermine was born March 24, 1931 in Wirtheim, Germany, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Schnell Van Gulick. She attended schools and graduated from high school in Wirtheim.
Hermine and her family moved the Junction City in 1968. She worked on Ft. Riley and was the Warehouse Manager at the Army Air Force Exchange Service until her retirement.
Hermine was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church, and was active in Circle #1 of the church. She was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, the Geary County Historical Society, the Elks Lodge #1037 , and was a board member of the Senior Center and Little Theatre Foundation, all of Junction City. She was also very active working with the East Vacariate of the Salina Diocese, through the ladies group of St. Xavier Church.
Hermine married Raymond E. McDonald on Sept. 14, 1957 in Belton, Texas . He died August 9, 1976.
Survivors include: 2 sons, Raymond McDonald and his wife Kay Weller, Waterloo, IA., and Roland McDonald and his wife Denise, Ooltewah, TN.; a step-daughter, Elaine Wickham, Martinsburg, W.V.; a sister, Johanna Hufnagel, Germany; and 3 granddaughters, Sara McDonald, Rachel McDonald, and Mary McDonald, all of Ooltewah, TN., and step-granddaughter, Terry Jacques; and a step-great grandson, Christopher Jacques. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at St. Xavier Catholic Church, with Fr. Kerry Ninemire officiating. Burial will follow at Ft. Riley Cemetery. The family will greet friends Tuesday evening, March 25, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., with a Prayer Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m., at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City.
