Herbert L. Gauntt, 79, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2003 at the Valley View Care Center in Junction City, KS. Services will be on Monday, April 7, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church in Junction City with the burial at the Marion Hill Cemetery. Rev. Matthew Glasgow will officiate. There will be a visitation on Sunday, April 6, 2003 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel.
Herbert was born on June 24, 1923 in Junction City to Dewey and Clara Johnson Gauntt. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1941. He owned and operated Uptown Motors for over 20 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Post #45.
He married Esther "Lynn" Johnson on June 1, 1947 in Akron, Iowa. She survives.
Other survivors include four sons: Stan Gauntt, Los Angeles, CA., John Gauntt, Topeka, KS., Jeff Gauntt, Tulsa, OK., Bryan Gauntt, Topeka, KS.; Two Brothers: Calvin and Virgil Gauntt, both of Junction City; One Sister: Bernadee Gauntt, Augusta, KS.; Five Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Brother: Harry Gauntt and Sister: Violet Ostlind.
Casket bearers are Delbert Bryant, Don Carrier, Bryan Gauntt, Kevin Gauntt, Mark Gauntt and Michael Gauntt.
Honorary Casket Bearers are R.D. Foster, John Leonard, Charles Rose and Roy Westover. Organist is Cindy Ritchie.
