Though her smile has passed, her laughter rings in our hearts and memories. Helga (Bertram) Jacks passed away on November 4th, 2015 in Phoenix, Arizona. She is survived by her three adult children and their spouses: Holger and Ann Jacks of Colorado Springs, CO; Belinda and Jim Chavez of Aurora, CO; Victor and Michelle Jacks of Fountain, CO. She has seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Mrs. Jacks was born March 19th, 1939 in Mannheim, Germany to Viktor and Margareta (Messner) Bertram. She was the middle child of five daughters. Her sisters Waltraud Stiegele of Mannheim and Margit Michaelski of Streamwood, IL survive her. She married Earl Dean Jacks July 22, 1964 he preceded her in death January 11, 2004.
After being naturalized in 1975, Helga began her career working for the U. S. Army in Germany. Her patriotism and love of the United States of America inspired her dedication and career of service for the next 36 years. She and Earl raised three children, while Earl made a career of the U. S. Army. When Earl became partially paralyzed by a stroke, Helga was his primary caregiver. She would only go on Temporary Duty assignments if she could bring Earl with her. Her love for her family is best expressed in her love for her husband until he passed.
A lover of music, Pavarotti and gospel to name a few, she would swing and groove to oldies just as joyfully. Even after her move to Sun City West, she would still cheer on her favorite football teams: the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas State University Wildcats. Always well dressed and refined, Helga was a member of The Church of the Advent Episcopal in Sun City West.
She belonged to a number of clubs and was active in the community as well as physically, being a fixture at least 3 times a week swim walking in the recreation center. Mrs. Jacks, who loved her new home in Arizona, is often quoted "What's not to love?", summing up her positive and forward looking spin on life. Whenever she was overcome by incredulity, she could be heard saying "You ARE got to be kidding me!!". Mom we wish " You ARE got to be kidding us, because you will be missed.
