Helen P. Wohler, 96, of Manhattan, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at Leonardville Nursing Home, Leonardville, KS.
Helen was born Aug. 16, 1914 at Randolph, KS, the daughter of Dr. James and Marie (Pfuetze) Copeland.
Helen graduated from Randolph Rural High School in 1932 and from Kansas State University in 1936. Helen worked many years in food service for Riley County Memorial Hospital and later was director of food service for Wharton Manor.
Helen was a long time member of First Lutheran Church in Manhattan.
Helen's role and job as "Mother" will always be remembered and appreciated. She was admired for many reasons, not the least of which was her wonderful sense of humor. This sense of humor never waned even though she was confined to her wheelchair for her last nine years. Her ability to laugh, and her recitation of poetry, was priceless.
Helen was married to Warren Wohler in Randolph in 1937. They later divorced in 1958.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, Anna Spence Copeland, two sisters, Josephine Cook and Katharine Copeland, and a step-sister, Lee Potter.
Helen is survived by three sons, Jim Wohler of Manhattan, KS, Lynn Wohler and his wife Pam of Centennial, CO, and Craig Wohler and his wife Sue of Prairie Village, KS. She is also survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Helen's family would like to thank the staff of Leonardville Nursing Home for their loving care over the past nine years. Memorial services for Helen will be held at 10 a.m., November 20, 2010 at the First Lutheran Church, Manhattan, KS, inurnment will follow at Sunrise Cemetery.
