Memorial services for Helen M. Norris, 78, of Junction City will be 2 p.m., Sunday, February 3, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue with Reverend Robert Norris officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service at the chapel. Mrs. Norris passed away at Geary Community Hospital on January 30, 2008. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be given to the American Diabetes Association, 10580 Barkley, Ste. 400, Overland Park, KS 66212 and/or Leukemia Society of America, KS Chapter, 555 N Woodlawn, Bldg. 1, Ste. 113, Wichita, KS 67208.
Mrs. Norris was born March 5, 1929 in Oto, IA to Fred and Olive (Stratton) Burgess. She married George Norris July 5, 1950 in Tacoma, WA he survives of the home. Mrs. Norris worked for Civil Service until retiring in 1978. She was the past president of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and a member of NARFE. She enjoyed crocheting, camping, bingo and her grandchildren.
Other survivors include three daughters; Rozella K. Davis of Onawa, IA, Wanda Newby and Stanley Alexander of Deatsville, AL, Judith White and husband Wayne of Junction City, KS and two sons; Robert Norris and wife Ann of Topeka, KS and Merlin "Jay" Norris and wife Lorraine of Wichita, KS, one brother: George Burgess of AZ, four sisters; Bonnie Miller Des Moines, IA, Louise Larson and Florence Davis both of Sioux City, IA and Ruby Allen of Onawa, IA, fourteen grandchildren, twenty six great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Walter Burgess, Gordon Burgess and Nuel Burgess and one baby sister.
