Helen "Louise" Green was born Sept. 22, 1937 to Charles Wilkerson and Mary Cox, whom preceded her in death. She was the oldest girl of 11 children. Louise attended Geary County Schools.
She became a wife and homemaker to Earnest L. Green, Sr. in 1953. He also preceded her in death in 1985.
Louise was a life-long resident of Junction City and was an avid Bingo player. Louise never met a stranger. She could "rattle those pots", as she was a very good cook.
Louise was "Granny" to a lot of Junction City youth throughout the years.
Louise moved to Manhattan in 2012, where she lived the remainder of her life, until her death Jan. 16, 2015.
Survivors include: a daughter, Cheryl Saunders, Manhattan, who was her main caregiver and provider for the last 30 years; 4 sons, Robert L. Green, Sr., Ernest L. Green, Jr., Kenneth Green and his wife Sharon, all of Denver, Colo., and Steven Green, Manhattan; a niece, who was raised as a daughter, Vay Elita Vance and her husband William, Greensboro, NC; a brother, Lee E. Griffin, Atlanta, GA; 10 grandchildren, Shavonna Maxwell, Cynthia Green, Derrick, DeVon and Dustin Saunders, Robert L. Green, Jr., Brian Collins, Jaron Julius, and Ja Quan Griffin, Tenesha Hill; 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. Louise was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Ruth Jean Hall, Joyling Howell, Janet and Shirley K. Griffin; and 5 brothers, Junebug Charles II, Jerome, Lil Jack, Lloyd, and George Griffin and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 at the Second Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Leonard Gray presiding. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. The family will greet friends, 12:00 p.m. until service time at the church Friday.
