Helen Carol Lawson went to be with the Lord on April 2, 2013, at the Valley View Healthcare Center. She was born to Harry and Esther (Denver) Steinfort on October 23, 1919 in the Vinton community. She graduated from Milford Rural High School in 1937 and attended Brown Mackie Business College. On April 28, 1940, she married George Wayne (Pat) Lawson in Milford. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2000.
Helen was a lifelong resident of Kansas. She was a homemaker and helped Wayne as they farmed in the rural Milford area for more than 50 years. They became members of the First Presbyterian Church of Junction City in 1948 and were active in numerous church activities. In her early years, she was a secretary for the Chamber of Commerce, taught music at Pleasant View, was a 4-H leader, and belonged to Pleasant View EHU.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Helen found immense joy in her family. She was a devoted Christian who enjoyed caring for animals and showed unmatched compassion to everyone. She loved singing and was delighted to be a member of The Troubadours of Junction City. She was a treasured friend to many.
Survivors include son, Roger (Sue) Lawson of Junction City, daughter, Mary Beth (Harvey) Thompson of Abilene, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Chester (Chick) Steinfort, and an infant brother, Marvin.
Funeral services for Helen Carol Lawson will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church, 115 W. Fifth St., Junction City, with Pastor Matthew Glasgow officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be in Milford Cemetery of Geary County.
