Graveside services for Hazel Temple, 87 of Junction City will be 3 p.m., Friday, November 2, 2007 at Highland Cemetery with Minister Norm Morgan of the Church of Christ officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 prior to the service at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. Ms. Temple passed away on October 25, 2007 at Via Christie St. Francis, Wichita, KS. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association, Memorial Processing Center, P. O. Box 1653, Topeka, KS 66601-9865.
Hazel was born April 6, 1920 in Tylertown, MS. Her parents were Henry Smith and Floyd Smith of Tylertown, Ms. Hazel moved to Junction City in 1965.
Hazel is survived by 10 children: John Henry Smith of California; McKinnley Hammond and wife Gloria of Lorraine, OH; Vera Lately and husband Wiley of Topeka, KS; Jesse Lee Hammond and wife Linda of Hannibal, MO; Elnora Duvernay and deceased husband Wendell of Wichita, KS; Louis Hammond, Tylertown, MS; Joseph Hammond of Topeka, KS; Venetta Ellis of Junction City, KS; Earl (Ricky) Temple, Kansas City, MO; and Shirley Temple and husband Thomas Finch of Wichita, KS.
Hazel was also blessed with 27 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Hazel also had 18 brothers and sisters.
Hazel was preceded in death by both her parents, son Nathan Temple and Grandsons; Lesley Abbey-Hammond and Joseph Smith, III.
Pallbearers are Willie Brown, Junction City; Joseph Hammond, Junction City; Earl (Ricky) Temple, Kansas City; Cornell Lately, Junction City; Anthony Moses, Topeka, KS and Calvin Lately, Topeka, KS.
