Harvey E. "Harv" Brink

July 18, 1947 — March 12, 2024

Harvey Eugene Brink, age 76, born on July 19, 1947, in Orange City, Iowa to Clifford E. and Bertha H. Brink, died at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS on March 12, 2024, due to heart issues.

Harv graduated from Floyd Valley High School in 1965, and from Iowa State University in 1969 with a BS in Fish and Wildlife Biology. In the fall of 1969

Harv was drafted and served 2 ½ years in the U. S. Army, which included 2 tours of duty in Vietnam.

Harv worked one year in Columbus, Nebraska, in the fish and wildlife area before moving south to Kansas. He then joined the U.S. Army Corps Engineers at the Milford Dam Project and worked there until his retirement.

Harv loved being outside, improving things around the lake, chatting with fisherman, training his hunting dogs, hunting for pheasant and deer, helping disabled people hunt, and umpiring baseball games for the town youth. At home he enjoyed planning his summer garden, planting the seeds, devising new ways to care for his garden, and loving to brag about when he had his first BLT of the summer. Indoors he enjoyed watching sports and reading westerns.

His sister Carla happily sent many books to Kansas for his enjoyment.

Surviving family members are; sister Sheryl (Brad) Carloss, Amery, WI, nieces and nephews, Michele Grotenhuis, Orange City, IA, Erik (Tosha) Grotenhuis, Blue Springs, MO, James (Tracey) Grotenhuis, Yankton, SD, Heather Schumacher, San Antonio, TX, Sara Schumacher, Lubbock, TX, grandnephews, Cooper and Macon Grotenhuis, Yankton, SD.

Harv was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Carla Schumacher, and brother-in-law, William (Bill) Schumacher.

At Harv’s request there will be no services or memorial gatherings, but we will all find a way to celebrate his life of caring and helpfulness.
