Harold R. Cyphers

June 6, 1938 — January 4, 2015

Harold R. Cyphers, 76 Junction City, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015, at the Geary Community Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the home of Shari Strauss. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Friends of Animals P.O. Box 580 Junction City, KS 66441.

Harold was born June 6, 1938, in Council Bluffs, IA the son of Harold W. and Violet L. (Daymude) Cyphers. Harold has lived in Junction City since 1954 having moved from Osawatomie, KS.

Harold had many careers in his life time. Early in his life he worked for the Junction City Theatres as a Projectionist. He worked as a mechanic for the local Chevrolet and Buick Dealerships. For many years, he worked as a Taxidermist with his life size mounts on display at Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, MO. At age 39, in 1977, he became a firefighter/EMT with the Junction City Fire Department. He retired at the rank of Captain in 1997.
Harold built hot rod vehicles and was a founding member of the Flywheel Club. He was an avid trap shooter and competed in many competitions throughout the United States. He enjoyed hunting and archery. In his later years, he enjoyed hunting the animals with his camera. During his retirement years, he spent time wood turning and wood burning creating keepsakes for his family.

He married Karen Zellner November 29, 1956, in Junction City, KS.

Survivors include his wife Karen, one son, Tony Cyphers and wife Sharyl of Mosca, CO, two daughters, Shari Strauss and husband Ron and Angela Cyphers both of Junction City, KS. Other survivors include one brother Larry W. Cyphers and his wife Janice of Junction City, KS, three grandchildren, Caleb Strauss, Melissa Conard and Autumn Wilgers, seven great-grandchildren, Noah, Josie, Katie, Amelia, Charlie, Hannah and Jenna.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Anita.
