A Celebration of Life for Harold Deever, 98, of Junction City, KS will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Matthew Glasgow officiating. Private burial will be held at Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka, KS prior to services. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, 6-8 p.m.at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St., Junction City, KS.

Harold Deever, 98, passed away early Thursday, July 15 at the Chapman Valley Nursing Home. He was born on March 23, 1912 in Pawnee, Illinois to the Rev. O. H. and Dora (Van Dyke) Deever, the eldest of four children.
His family moved to Kansas where he graduated from Southwestern College in 1933 and began his first teaching assignment in LaPorte, CO. He met Dorothy Evans and they were married June 17, 1938 she precedes him in death. They moved to Plains, KS.
In subsequent years he was hired as a superintendent of schools in Grenola, KS following that with Belle Plaine, KS, Osage City, KS and Larned, KS.He was hired as Superintendent of Schools for USD #475 in 1958. During his long tenure in Junction City, he over saw construction of projects as diverse as the JCHS Stadium, Fort Riley Middle School and an administration building and additions to JCHS and JCMS before he retired in 1977.
His passions included Education, genealogy and the piano, his church where he taught Sunday school, sang in the Choir, and helped to develop the First Presbyterian Church of Junction City Endowment Fund, the Geary County Historical Society, where he also helped to set up an Endowment Fund, and the Rotary Club.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Stanley Deever of Evergreen, CO, and his daughters, Janet Deever of Austin, TX, and Kay Deever of Manhattan, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.
His sisters and brother Hazel Deever Hickerson, Merwin Deever and Marian Deever Everson preceded him in death.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Vic Davis, Robert Munson, Dave Lauseng, Terry Heldstab, Bruce McMillan, Bill Powers, Al Ferguson and Gaylynn Childs.
