Harlan H. Henry

Harlan Hugh Henry, "HHH," 91, passed away peacefully with his family beside him on August 7, 2017 at Geary Community Hospital in Junction City.
Harlan was born in Keats, Kan., on May 14, 1926 to George and Antoinette (Nettie) Henry. He had two brothers, Wayne Henry and Dale Henry.
Like many of his generation, Harlan was drafted out of high school to fight in World War II. He was stationed in Germany, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, his unit being the first to defend and hold the Remagen Bridge. Harlan was injured during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
After the war, Harlan set roots in Junction City, driving a taxi for a short time with his father and brother, Wayne.
In 1946 he found his calling as a car salesman and began a successful career selling Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles at JC Motors for more than 30 years. He became part owner of JC Motors, and later JC Auto Sales. Harlan made many friends during his career, and built trusting relationships with his customers.
Harlan married Velma Darlene Kidd in 1948. Velma preceded Harlan in death, passing away in 1956.
Harlan and Velma had four children, Marilyn, Judy, Larry, and Carol.
Harlan married Janice Ann Clark in 1959, and she welcomed Harlan's children as her own. To this union, two more sons were born, Jim and Tony.
Throughout his life, Harlan loved living in Kansas and spent his time hunting, fishing, gardening, cutting wood, and sitting beside his wood stove in the winter.
He loved his family and friends, and his home was often the place for barbecues and celebrations of life. His family was his pride and joy, and in retirement, he and Jan traveled to their homes located across the country.
Harlan was preceded in death by both of his wives, Velma and Jan, and his two brothers, Wayne and Dale.
He is survived by his six children, Marilyn (Glen) Brown, Judy (Ed) Workman, Larry (Janet) Henry, Carol (Steve) Lacer, Jim Henry, and Tony (Shelby) Henry, 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Penwell Gabel Junction City Funeral Chapel at 203 N. Washington, Junction City, Kan. Burial with military honors, provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley, will take place following the service at Highland Cemetery in Junction City.
