Funeral services for Harding D. Shumate, 85, Junction City, KS will be 10:00am Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington with Roger Shumate officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at St. John's Cemetery. Mr. Shumate passed away April 12, 2007 at Golden Living Center, Wakefield, KS. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00pm Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Heartland Division, 1100 Pennsylvania Ave. Kansas City, MO. 64105.


Harding was born August 10, 1921 in Grayson County, VA the son of John D. and Cornelia (Reedy) Shumate. He served in the US Army in Africa and Italy form 1943-1945. He retired from Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. and NEAPCO in Pottstown, PA. He married Rita L. Walker March 14, 1943, she preceded him in death July 12, 2006.

Harding is survived by his son Dennis Shumate, Junction City, KS and a sister Oakie Shumate; ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren.

Preceded also in death by his parents, two daughters Carol Vargas,and Linda Rudolph, five brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Patterson, Bryon Shumate, Chevin Scheib, Rustie West, Daniel Brewer and Shannon Shumate.
