Memorial services for Grace Alexina Wharton, 87, Junction City will be 10:00am Friday, May 30, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline with Pastor Lorenzo Jackson officiating. Inurnment will follow at Fort Riley Cemetery. Mrs. Wharton passed away May 24, 2008 at Geary Community Hospital. No visitation is planned. Grace was born in Denver, Colorado to Clyde and Rosalie Andrews (deceased). Her siblings include Margaret Rafael (deceased), Clyde Andrews, Seaside, CA,, Ida Ray (deceased), and Robert Andrews (deceased).
Her father, a member of the 9th & 10th Calvary Buffalo Soldiers, relocated his family to the Junction City area following his assignment to Ft. Riley, KS. Grace graduated from Junction City Senior High May 17, 1940. She married Franklin A. Wharton, a career serviceman of the United States Army, on October 7, 1943.
She is survived by her son, Franklin A. Wharton, Jr., Omaha, NE; daughter, Nathalie Wharton, Denver, CO; granddaughter, Natasha Reed, Mansfield, TX; great grand children, LeJon, Brandon, and Danielle Reed, Mansfield, TX; daughter-in-law, Rosa A. Smith, Omaha, NE; grandson-in-law, Rodney E. Reed, Mansfield TX; son-in-law, Reynard Wright, Junction City, KS and a number of nieces and nephews. Throughout her adult life she was blessed by many special friendships including Daisy Gage (deceased), Irene McDonald, Mary Ellen Jones, and Modestine Parker all of Junction City, KS.
Grace was a loving wife, mother and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
